Since its launch in late 2012, GBS Switzerland has grown considerably. The first paid positions were appointed by the end of 2013. By now (December 2014), 14 people are working for GBS, totaling nine full-time equivalents. The team of GBS volunteers consists of more than 50 people.
Adriano Mannino, Co-President
Adriano is a writer and philosopher. He represents GBS publicly and is currently working on a book on Sentience Politics. Adriano studied philosophy at Bern University and publishes predominantly in theoretical and practical ethics and moral psychology. In recent years he has launched numerous projects connected to effective altruism.
Lucius Caviola, Co-President
Lucius is in charge of the strategic orientation of GBS and represents GBS publicly. He studied psychology at Basel and Oxford University and does research in moral and cognitive psychology. For Oxford’s Practical Ethics Blog, Lucius makes research findings accessible to a broader public.
Jonas Vollmer, Executive Director
Jonas coordinates the GBS projects in terms of content and strategy. Before GBS, he gained work experience in the management of an international charity. During his studies in medicine and economics, he also specialized in health economics, which is essential for charity evaluation.
Meret Schneider, Co-manager, Sentience Politics
Meret Schneider is a co-manager at Sentience Politics. She has a degree in linguistics, journalism and life sciences from the University of Zurich and is a distinguished young politician. Amongst others, she is the president of the Young Green Party in Zurich as well as member of the Municipal Council of Uster.
Dr. Jonathan Erhardt, Director, Crucial Considerations (CC)
Jonathan researches on the topics of evolutionary humanism and leads the project Crucial Considerations, with the goal of making GBS topics accessible to a broad, English-speaking audience. He holds a PhD in law from Bern University and a BPhil from Oxford.
Rita Fleer, Staff, Finances
Rita is a board member of the GBS university chapter at Bern University and revises our financial planning and business reports. She wrote her bachelor thesis at the Economic Institute (KOF) at ETH Zurich and previously worked for the Institute of Information Systems at Bern University. Rita is currently doing an internship at the Swiss National Bank (SNB) and a master’s degree in economics at Bern University.
Micha Eichmann, Deputy Executive Director
Micha is a GBS deputy executive director and the director of operations of Raising for Effective Giving (REG). He was in the organizing committee of Denkfest and is the president of the regional free-thinking association. Micha studied evolutionary biology at Basel University.
Sara Savona, Event Manager
Sara organizes all GBS events, handles our donation management and presides over the GBS university chapter Basel. Sara studies psychology at Basel University.
Tobias Pulver, Director, Raising for Effective Giving (REG)
Tobias is the managing director of REG, a deputy director of GBS and a board member of the GBS university chapter Bern. He studied political science at Zurich University and worked for the Center for Democracy Studies Aarau.
Philipp Ryf, Co-manager, Sentience Politics
Philipp coordinates Sentience Politics in Basel. He studied political sciences at Zurich University and is currently doing a master’s degree in sustainable development at Basel University. Philipp has entrepreneurial and long-standing political experience.
Natalie Cargill, Research Assistant
Natalie researches for us at the intersection of law, moral and cognitive psychology and is a legal advisor to GBS. She holds a first class degree in English from Oxford University, and has worked with the United Nations and international development agencies in Geneva. Natalie is currently studying for a graduate diploma in law in London.
Brian Tomasik, Director, Foundational Research Institute (FRI)
At FRI, Brian is researching how upcoming technologies, in particular artificial intelligence, can be steered into ethically safe(r) trajectories. He studied computer science, mathematics, statistics and economics at Swarthmore College and worked for Microsoft. With his “Essays on Reducing Suffering”, he became one of the leading writers in the domain of effective altruism.
Lukas Gloor, Research Assistant
Lukas does research for FRI and writes content for CC and REG, where he is a board member. He also is involved in determining the long-term strategic orientation of GBS. Lukas studies philosophy and biology at Zurich University and has experience as a semi-professional poker player.
Charlotte Blattner, Research Assistant
Charlotte works on the legal groundwork needed to launch the GAP in Switzerland. She studied law at Basel University and worked for the county court of Sissach as well as for the Swiss Centre of Expertise in Human Rights (SCHR). She is currently doing a PhD in animal law at Basel University.
Ruairí Donnelly, Staff, Communications
Ruairí manages communications at REG and is expanding the outreach of the project. He studies computer science and business at Trinity College Dublin.
Mike Stadelmann, Co-manager, Sentience Politics Zurich
Mike coordinates Sentience’s initiatives in Zurich and leads the team there. He is currently doing a master’s degree in ethnology at Zurich University and previously worked in the asylum sector of the local social welfare department.
David Althaus, Chief Editor, GBS Blog
David works as a research assistant and chief editor of the GBS blog. He studied psychology at Innsbruck and Köln Universities and is currently doing a master’s degree at Basel University.
Max Kocher, Staff, Communications
Max coordinates our public relations. He studied psychology and sociology at Nürnberg-Erlangen University and is currently doing a master’s degree in cognitive science at Freiburg University.
Massimo Mannino, advisor
Massimo co-presides over the GBS chapter at St. Gallen University where he is doing a PhD in political economics. He studied economics and statistics at St. Gallen, East Carolina and Copenhagen Universities and previously worked for the Economic Institute (KOF) at ETH Zurich.
Danilo Wanner, Staff, Web Design
Danilo creates and services the GBS websites. He studied visual communication and iconic research at the University of Applied Sciences North-West Switzerland.
Adrian Hutter, Advisor
Adrian studied physics at ETH Zurich and is now doing a PhD in theoretical physics at Basel University. He published in quantum physics and quantum information processing and advises FRI’s research.
Patrick Germann, Research Assistant
Patrick creates content for websites, manages our social media and supports the research work. As a philosophy student at Zurich University, he pioneered the Sentience initiatives: He wrote a position paper which served as a basis for the first claims for vegan meal options at several universities.
Julienne Wenger, Staff, Design & Catering
Julienne is a free-lance illustrator. She designs GBS print works, creates logos and ensures a productive mood with her cooking skills.
Tamina Graber, Staff, Catering
Tamina is a part-time chef at our office. She works as a media designer for an advertising agency.

Simon manages our payments. He works at Alternative Bank of Switzerland.
